New Perspectives
We're gonna liven things up a bit. New information is always great when it is up to date and relevant. I am always trying to find and share different perspectives. This is especially true when it comes to the repetitive, mundane side of running your own business. Trust me, it's not all fun and games. (Unless you make party supplies?)
It is EXCITING to start a new business, usually doing something you are passionate about and love doing over and over and over again. Think back to when you first decided to start your own business. Maybe even the first time that you created the product/service that you sell. It was exciting, right?? Do you still feel that excitement? Maybe not.
Often we, as creatives, can start to feel like we're drowning in the repetitive tasks. When you do something a million times it is no longer fun or exciting and it can feel like you can't. Can't what? You just can't. It's all the same. It's boring. It's work. It isn't what you signed up for when you decided to go after your dreams and work for yourself. It doesn't have to be like that. You can freshen up your perspective and in doing so, bring back some of the excitement that you have grown to miss.
Don't be afraid to reach out to people, even people who aren't your target audience can inspire you to see things differently. Ask questions, opinions, gather different points of view.
You know how sometimes you want to paint a room and you're not dead-set on a color, but you go look at that thing at Lowe's with all the 126,511,518,541 paint chips and you find the right general section of colors, but you still haven't found the color. Then you can pick up one and know that it is NOT the color you want. Sometimes it isn’t about picking up the right one. Eliminating the wrong ones helps us get closer to the right one.
Not everything goes smoothly all the time. That's okay. We don't always need smooth. Sometime the road to our goals is bumpy, twisty, turny and has gigantor pot holes. That's when it's time to kick it into 4WD and recognize that the destination is totally worth the trip.
